Struggling Buds of Faith in Rocky Soil
The last song Whitney Houston sang in public was “Jesus Loves Me.” At her funeral, friends and family talked about her faith in Christ. No one knows another person’s heart. But if the stories of her sincere Christian faith are true, then we know that her faith struggled through rocky soil.
We live in a fallen world. No one’s faith journey is perfect. Even Paul struggled with this. He talked about it in Romans 7: “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.” Romans 7:15, NIV
What sin do you struggle with? What rocky soil prevents you from living the life God calls you to live? How did you fail? How did you see God’s love through it? How has He helped you in this struggle? How did you sense His guiding hand in your choices?
How can you help others experience victory? How can you help them forgive themselves when they fail? What can you write to encourage them in the middle of their struggle? How can you show them that God hasn’t abandoned them?
How can you use your experiences in a personal experience piece? In fiction? In a how-to article? in a meditation/devotional? In poetry? What can you write for children that will help them choose to follow Jesus and do the right thing?
