From the Idea Garden

Do you serve on a board or committee? It might be at church or in the community. What does it teach you about problem-solving? About conflict resolution? About relationships? How can you use those insights in fiction? In a personal experience article? In a how-to article? In a meditation/devotional? In a children’s story? In poetry?

Picking Fruit from the Quote Orchard

“And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.” —Sylvia Plath

Seeds of Truth

Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. Psalm 119:49, NIV

How has God given you hope through His Word? How have you seen Him work through His Word? How can you share that insight in a personal experience piece? In fiction? In a how-to article? In a meditation/devotional? In poetry? How can you explain it to children in a story?

What Bible verses help you in your darkest times? How can you use those verses in your writing? Use each verse as a separate inspiration. How can you share that experience in a personal experience piece? In fiction? In a how-to article? In a meditation/devotional? In poetry? How can you explain it to children in a story?

Struggling Buds of Faith in Rocky Soil

The last song Whitney Houston sang in public was “Jesus Loves Me.” At her funeral, friends and family talked about her faith in Christ. No one knows another person’s heart. But if the stories of her sincere Christian faith are true, then we know that her faith struggled through rocky soil.

We live in a fallen world. No one’s faith journey is perfect. Even Paul struggled with this. He talked about it in Romans 7: “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.” Romans 7:15, NIV

What sin do you struggle with? What rocky soil prevents you from living the life God calls you to live? How did you fail? How did you see God’s love through it? How has He helped you in this struggle? How did you sense His guiding hand in your choices?

How can you help others experience victory? How can you help them forgive themselves when they fail? What can you write to encourage them in the middle of their struggle? How can you show them that God hasn’t abandoned them?

How can you use your experiences in a personal experience piece? In fiction? In a how-to article? in a meditation/devotional? In poetry? What can you write for children that will help them choose to follow Jesus and do the right thing?

From the Idea Garden

I took a break from posting on the blog because I had freelance deadlines and deadlines for my full-time job. But, it got me thinking. What are the life interruptions that come into your life? What does God teach you during those interruptions? How can those interruptions enhance your writing? Can you glean any writing ideas from those interruptions? How can you use those ideas in a personal experience piece? In fiction? In a devotional/meditation? In a how-to piece? In poetry?
